Island Writers’ Network
The Island Writers’ Network convened on Monday, May 2, 2011, at the Heritage Library in the Savannah Bank
Building, 852 Wm Hilton Parkway. Moderator Lorie Getz called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Present were
Will Anderson, Ray Berberian, Tom Crawford, Larry Farrell, Lorie Getz, Ken Getz, Bobbi Hahn, Jane Hill, Norm
Levy, Marilyn Lorenz, Sansing McPherson, Dee Merian, Janet Morris, Peter Schwarzlose, Greg Smorol; visitors

Program: IWN member Norm Levy, former Director of Advertising for Proctor and Gamble, the world’s largest
advertiser, gave a program on “Tools Needed to Market Your Book Using New Media.” Norm covered web pages,
blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, emphasizing that these social-media tools are essential in today’s
marketing, but the writer needs to constantly “tend the garden,” to keep blog and webpage current. Norm has
hired Suzi Beech of Beech Marketing in Portland, OR, to teach him how to manage a blog and other social media.
He has paid her over $2,000 for the service, but it has greatly enhanced his “digital cred” in his consulting
business as well as book publicity. See attached handout.
Minutes of the April 4, 2011, meeting were approved as amended, correcting the name of the printer we decided
to use to America’s Press of League City, TX.
Treasurer’s report: Treasurer Greg Smorol reported a balance on hand of $1,363.99.
Bravo: Lorie Getz passed out Bravo brochures and commented that the Chamber of Commerce does not seem to
have publicized the festival as it has in the past. IWN has 6 events to be held in the large meeting room at the

have arrived from the new printer, America’s Press. Charlie Thorn has 104 copies of the second anthology, Hilton
