On March 19th, Chairman of the Georgia Public Service Commission Tim Echols presented an update
on important issues currently facing the Georgia PSC. Commissioner Echols specifically addressed
incentives for passive solar, green energy participation, hybrid and CNG vehicles, potential for
conversion of coal power plants to natural gas, and the approved expansion of Plant Vogtle.
On May 21st David D'Onofrio, an Air Quality and Climate Change Planner with the Atlanta Regional Commission, discussed the air quality
issues and climate change impacts of transportation in the Atlanta region. He updated us on non-attainment area information and other
regional transportation issues. He also outlined the proposed transportation tax option referendum. Part 1 Part 2
November 19th -- Steven M. Jackson, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, MEAG Power provided an update on the Plant
Vogtle project.
October 15th – Hank Linginfelter, Executive Vice President, Distribution Operations, AGL Resources provided an update on the future
directions that the natural gas industry is taking.
September 17th – Doug Moore, Principal Engineer, Energy Services, Electric Cities of Georgia (ECG), provided an update re the GE SMART
grid project for the City of Norcross. The utility’s 4,200 customers will get lower meter management costs, quicker outage management
response and quicker restoration times. It also sets them up for advanced energy management, like demand response capabilities,
electric vehicle integration, and advanced distribution requirements.
2012 Southeastern Energy Society programs
The April 16th SEES meeting featured Joshua L. Becker, a partner at Alston & Bird, who presented a program entitled: "Shale Gas:
Overview of Litigation, Regulatory, and Scientific Trends." Mr. Becker's recent experience includes consumer product and consumer
fraud class action suits, hydraulic fracturing/fracking litigation, greenwashing/green guide compliance, and matters pertaining to the
Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). He also counsels clients on risk management and due diligence specific to product liability
exposure. Mr. Becker currently serves on the editorial board of LJN’s Product Liability Law & Strategy.
